Berlin Fiction Writers Unite – The Second Coming!

Oddbelly| Views: 334

Creating this Meetup could be actually one of the best things I have ever done. We’ve only had just one meeting so far but it was really enjoyable. The group that showed up were – amazingly enough – just men and all of a similar age. Why was this surprising? Well, most of the writers that expressed interest in coming were women. Not sure what happened there but hopefully we will have more a mixed group going forward.

And go forward we shall!

It was a pleasure to get to know other fiction writers and talk about all the issues that affect us on a regular basis. Issues that we all struggle with. Such as: writing in the first person or third person, the question of traditional publishing vs self-publishing, how to write engaging characters, editing….it was really an enjoyable four hours and I am really looking forward to the next one.

As this was my first Meetup, I wasn’t sure what to expect…especially regarding numbers. In total, 15 people confirmed that they would attend, with an additional five submitting an RSVP. How many turned up? Four. I was a bit disappointed in the beginning but at the end of the day, it didn’t make any difference as it was a fantastic round. For the next session, I have expanded the group size to 20. Maybe this will make a difference? Who can tell? I will write an update though after the meeting and let you know how it all went…and this time I will take photos 🙂

Anyway (at the time of writing this at least) there are still spaces available. Interested? Come around if you are available – the more the merrier!
